IDS HYYP IP Connect Module
The IDS HYYP IP Connect Module is a plug-on communicator that links an IDS X-Series alarm panel to the internet. In short, it turns a standalone alarm into a connected one. Once installed, the IP Connect Module reports events to the HYYP platform and lets the owner arm, disarm, and monitor the system from the HYYP Home smartphone app. Because it communicates over broadband rather than a phone line or SIM, it suits sites with a stable internet connection.
What the IP Connect Module does
At its core, the IP Connect Module bridges two worlds: the alarm panel and the HYYP cloud. Specifically, it enables an X-Series panel to communicate with the HYYP Base Station and the HYYP Home mobile app. As a result, the system gains remote control and real-time reporting that a basic panel cannot offer on its own. Moreover, the module handles messaging to a control room, so an armed-response provider can receive alarm signals over IP.
How it connects
Installation follows a clear path. First, the IP Connect Module draws 12V DC from the panel’s TX terminals, with positive to 12V and GND to negative. Next, a serial cable links the module’s serial connector to the serial connector on the X-Series panel. Finally, the module joins the network in one of two ways:
- Ethernet — connect an RJ45 cable from the module to the router.
- WiFi (WPS) — on the WiFi-capable version, press WPS on the router, then hold WPS on the module for two seconds.
Importantly, the IP Connect Module obtains its address by DHCP only. Therefore the network must run a DHCP server to hand it an IP address. It does not support static IP configuration, which matters on managed corporate networks.
The HYYP Home app and control-room reporting
After pairing, the owner adds the module to the HYYP Home app by entering its unique ID or scanning it, then confirming with a code entered at panel location 196. From then on, the app gives an overview of the system with push notifications and remote arm/disarm. In addition, the HYYP platform supports automation control and, with compatible HYYP cameras, video verification. Meanwhile, the same IP Connect Module can report through to a professional monitoring station via the HYYP Base Station.
Status LEDs and diagnostics
To make installation and fault-finding straightforward, the IP Connect Module carries four status LEDs:
- Power LED — on when the module has sufficient power.
- Panel Comms LED — flashes while it talks to the X-Series panel.
- Network Comms LED — flashes while it communicates on the network.
- Server Auth LED — on once it connects to the HYYP platform.
Consequently, an installer can read the LEDs to pinpoint a fault. For instance, the module reports common errors such as no router connection, no DHCP-supplied address, or no internet, which speeds up troubleshooting on site.
Panel compatibility
The IP Connect Module is designed as a plug-on for the IDS X-Series panels. In addition, it can serve an IDS805 panel when paired with the IDS805 key-bus interface module. So it covers both the X-Series and, with the right interface, the widely installed 805.
Subscription and network requirements
Two practical points matter before purchase. First, the HYYP platform carries monthly charges for control-room reporting, so factor the subscription into the running cost. Second, because the IP Connect Module relies on the internet, the alarm loses its reporting path if the broadband drops. In Nairobi, where KPLC outages can cut router power, a sensible setup keeps the router on a UPS or inverter. Otherwise, a GSM communicator remains the more outage-resilient option.
